THE INDESTRUCTIBILITY OF ISRAEL

by

Israel has been kept intact for the past 4,000 years as a separate people, chosen of God. From the Egyptian bondage through the onslaughts of the Assyrians and the Babylonian Captivity, the purges of the Inquisition during the Dark Ages, the pograms of Russia, and the Holocaust under Hitler, Israel has suffered every imaginable persecution the world could throw at her -- and has prevailed!

Imagine ten cities with populations of 600,000 each. Now imagine the slaughtering of the Jews under the Nazi regime, and you will realize that the number of Jews killed in the ovens of Germany equaled the total population of those ten cities! Imagine -- every person killed in TEN cities, each with 600,000 inhabitants. How much farther can Israel go? How many more holocausts will be needed finally to obliterate the Jew from the face of the earth? Can Israel survive?

The Bible is clear that God is on the side of the Jews. He has promised their survival. He has given His Word that NOTHING will ever be able to destroy the nation.

In Jeremiah 31 the Lord gives five illustrations of the indestructibility of the Chosen People. The reasoning of these passages is that if certain conditions CAN be met, then and only then, can Israel be destroyed.

  1. "If the tides can be stopped" by the efforts of man, then Israel "shall cease from being a nation". This is the gist of His reference to the moon and stars which cause the sea to divide (31:35). Men do not even fully understand the tides of the ocean, much less have the ability to halt their risings and fallings.
  2. "If man can measure the heavens," then Israel can be done away (31:37). Some years ago an article in Time Magazine stated that four new galaxies had been discovered. Each are larger than our Milky Way galaxy, and are said to be two billion light years away. Scientists tell us that with our present capacity, we can see half the distance of space. What would happen if we could see the entire distance? And then, what could we find beyond space - space? The very fact of space speaks of limitlessness.
  3. The LORD says that if one can "discover the foundations of the earth," Israel would be obliterated (31:37). What holds the earth in suspension? The ancients thought the earth sat on the shoulders of Atlas who in turn, sat on the back of a giant turtle. No one knows what keeps the earth anchored to its position in space.
  4. "When day ceases to follow night, and night ceases to follow day" - when the entire cycle of sun, moon and stars function no more, then there will be no more Israel. (Jeremiah 33:19-21)
  5. "When the heavens cease to flow in their proper patterns", and the order and symmetry of outer space is turned into chaos so that the constellations and stars move at their own will instead of His, Israel will come to its end.

Do we not see that the very impossibilities described in the above situations are in reality the promises of God to His earthly Chosen People to preserve them as a nation whatever circumstances might present themselves?
