DANIEL - CHAPTER TEN


  I.        THE BURDEN OF THE PROPHET (vs. 2, 3)


A.   Daniel’s physical burden (v. 3)

 

1.    He ate no pleasant bread.

 

2.    He drank no wine.

 

3.    He did not anoint his body.

 

4.    He suffered physically for Israel’s state of spirituality.

b.    Compare Paul for the Philippians (Philippians 2:17)

 

c.    Compare Paul for Israel (Romans 9:3)

 

B.   Daniel’s spiritual burden

 

1.    For Israel’s worldliness - those many who were content to stay in Babylon

 

2.    For the 42,000 who returned to Jerusalem - they had lost their zeal and became content to intermarry, etc.

 

3.    For their future (vs. 1, 14)

 

 II.        THE BESEECHING OF THE PROPHET (vs. 4-14)


A.   The exertion

 

1.    Prayed unceasingly for 21 days (v. 13)

 

2.    The appearance of “a man” (vs. 5)

 

B.   The Effect (vs. 12, 13)

 

1.    Heard immediately in heaven (v. 12)

 

2.    An angel sent with the answer (vs. 10-13)

 

3.    Started heavenly warfare (v. 13)

 

a.    Demonic hindrance to the heavenly angel

 

b.        Satanic and demonic activities (Job 1 & 2; Zechariah 3:1; Ephesians 6:12: Romans 8:38)

 

c.    Demonic influence over the nations (vs. 13, 20)

 

d.    Holy angels’ influence over nations (v. 21)

 

4.    Brought an answer from God

 

a.    An encouragement to pray (Cf. Isaiah 65:24)

 

b.    God answers all prayer (Matthew 21:22)

 

III.       THE BREADTH OF THE PROPHECY


A.   Chapter 10 is only the preparation for receiving further prophecies connected with Israel.

 

B.   Chapters 11-12 contain the last, and most minute, prophecies of the book.
